My Favorites
The Night Circus
by Erin Morgenstern
I think about this book a lot and re-read it fairly regularly, especially when I’m too “new storied out” and need to relax my brain. The imagery is fantastical, whimsical, and vivid. I love imagining myself wearing the costumes and wandering the Night Circus. The story is absolutely fascinating, and the author kept me guessing as to what was actually going on with “the game.” I absolutely love this story.
SERIES:
The Wheel of Time
by Robert Jordan
I began reading this series when I was 14, and the 6th of 14 books had just come out. So began an excruciating 17-year saga where every few years I would greedily gobble each new book and impatiently wait for the next. Unfortunately, Robert Jordan died before finishing the series himself, but he engaged another wonderful fantasy writer, Brandon Sanderson, to help him complete the last 3 books in the series as his health failed. I have re-read this entire series many times over 20-something years, but they are not for the weak. Each book is roughly 25 hours long, so unless you’re willing to switch over to audio books so that you can actually do other things with your life, you will be stuck in this series for years to come. As it is, this series always takes me a few months to finish out when I get the hankering to listen to it again.
SERIES:
Anne of Green Gables
by L.M. Montgomery
My favorite aunt gifted me this series when I was 10 years old, and I have re-read it countless times over the years. I can credit this series with helping me develop my values, philosophy, and personal sense of decency. Anne is such a loveable character, and it was especially wonderful to watch her grow through the years and learn about her own children.
