I was once asked, “Are you really a reader if you’re listening to the books?” My response was, “If you are consuming books in any form, you are a reader.” To me, it doesn’t matter how I accomplish my trysts. What matters is that I am able to partake in my absolute favorite past-time while doing almost anything else.
My mother began reading to me while I was very young. I can remember being 4 years old and impatient for her to read to me “The Sneetches and Other Stories,” by Dr. Seuss for the 800th time. I got tired of waiting for her, so I taught myself to read by reading to my little brothers. So began my love affair with my favorite escape.
Like most college students, my reading mostly consisted of text books and research papers. As a young professional, I had a difficulties finding time to just sit and read. I was complaining about this to my favorite aunt and uncle one day, and that’s when they introduced me to audio books. My uncle downloaded the full Harry Potter series on my iPod, and my second love affair began roughly 16 years ago. I haven’t looked back.
